The Hurt Locker, the Oscar favourite

If Hurt Locker wins the Best Picture Oscar it will be the lowest-grossing best picture winner in Oscar history with earnings of around only $21 million worldwide as of now, the domestic box office revenue being $14,700,000 (68.8%) and foreign $6,656,139 (31.2%) totaling only $21,356,139 in worldwide collections. Also, if Bigelow wins the Best Director Oscar, she will be first female so far to win the award, for which only four women have ever been nominated hitherto; the other three being Lina Wertmüller for Seven Beauties (1976), Jane Campion for The Piano (1993) and Sofia Coppola for Lost in Translation (2003). Bigelow has already created record by becoming the first woman ever to win the Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures for The Hurt Locker. On 21st February 2010, she also garnered the BAFTA award for Best Director and the film also won the award for the Best Film at the BAFTA ceremony.
