Marilyn Monroe’s ‘Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend’ gown up for auction

Yet another Marilyn Monroe memorabilia is up for auction on June 10-12. More precisely the iconic bubblegum pink satin gown Monroe was wearing while performing in one of cinema's most memorable the evergreen song-dance sequence ‘Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend’ in the film ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953) will be auctioned at an expected price of $150,000 to $250,000. Not much, for a serious Monroe artifacts collector, considering the slinky dress Monroe wore when she sang ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ at Madison Square Garden on 18 May 1962, at the birthday party for President John F. Kennedy, was sold at an auction in 1999 for $1.27 million.

The auction, one of the biggest ever held in Hollywood, offers an unprecedented range of 1,500 landmark items of Hollywood props and memorabilia. Also being put up for sale in the auction include: Wicked Witch of the West hat worn by Margaret Hamilton in The Wizard of Oz, the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the personal script used by Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Darth Vader's light saber from Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, an X-Wing Fighter filming miniature from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Johnny Depp's scissor-hands in Edward Scissorhands, Depp's Jack Sparrow jacket from Pirates of the Caribbean.
