Susan Hayward's last Oscar appearance

The photo shows the American actress Susan Hayward's last Academy Awards appearance in 1974, as she appeared as a presenter along with Charlton Heston for the category of "Best Actress." Her career was highly successful through the 1950s and she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of death row inmate Barbara Graham in the film 'I Want to Live!' (1958). She also won a Golden Globe and was nominated for a BAFTA for her performance in 'I Want to Live!'

Hayward died at age 57 on March 14, 1975, of pneumonia-related complications of brain cancer. There were speculations that she might have been affected by radioactive fallout from atmospheric atomic bomb tests while making the film ‘The Conqueror’ with John Wayne, because several crew, as well as Wayne himself later died of cancer or cancer-related complications. Hayward has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6251 Hollywood Boulevard.
